Contrary to popular belief, you shouldn’t turn toward the direction you are skidding in. Instead, focus on one spot you want to go, and keep steering toward it. If driving a front-wheel vehicle, it’s also important to accelerate a bit to pull the vehicle out of the skid. However, acceleration is not recommended in a vehicle with rear wheel drive.
